Puddles…and MUD!

Can you feel it?!  The sun is shining, the birds are singing, the snow is melting, and thanks in part to daylight saving time, the days are getting longer!  The spring-like weather is here!

Although the official start date of spring is drawing near (March 20th), I don’t really feel safe saying it is spring until mid-April.  Quite often there seems to be one last blast of winter at the end of March, and I don’t want to jinx our chances of getting out of this winter with the minimal snowfall that we have had!

We have been spending a lot more time outdoors the past week with the temperatures being in the 50’s and 60’s.  With the snow melting and occasional rainfall comes children’s favorite part of spring: PUDDLES!

Charlie would run through each one…

And back again.

And then stick his hands in them.

And along with puddles comes MUD!  This is what you driveway looks like when you live on gravel dirt mud.

Charlie likes to run through mud too.

And by run I mean fall in the mud.

Needless to say, I’ve been doing a lot of laundry.

Charlie was out “workin’ and fixin’” on the new-to-us corn planter for a large part of the day yesterday and came into the house for supper looking like this:

Once he climbed up on to his stool, I asked him if he need to wash his hands before eating and he said “no” with a coy sort of grin on his face.

Being a clean freak by nature, I wanted go into a corner and grab a paper bag to breathe into.  Not that dirt and grime are foreign to me, but after living captivity (the townhouse in the city) for the last four months, I need to desensitize myself to the dirtiness of living in the country once again.

Not being able to handle it, we stripped him down right there and got him into the tub.  He did manage to get in a mouthful of food before then.

Although Levi is walking well indoors, I don’t know how great he would do on this terrain.  He would most definitely be a pig(let) in mud.
